Back in the Swing of Things

So after a couple months hiatus I decided to get back in the swing of things.  I haven't quilted for a while because I was just so burnt out, but after meeting a new friend on ETSY we concocted a trade.   I would make a quilt with her fabrics in exchange for some of her goods.  I love it when a good plan comes together:)  Her shop is called HeavensEarth on ETSY, she makes a variety of goods including paintings, jewelry, fabric, pillows, etc. mostly derived from her beautiful artwork.  She also has a website www.serenawilsonstubson.com she is extremely talented and well published.

She picked out a pattern online and brought me the fabrics and away I went.  The pattern is from Fresh Lemon Quilts and the link is here.  It is a funky squares quilt with great detailed instructions and photo guides.

The instructions are for a throw quilt so I just adjusted them to make a double/full size.  The quilt is 9 blocks by 10 blocks.  Each block ended up being 9" x 9",  yielding a quilt approximately 81" x 90".  Instead of using a plain fabric for the backing I used all the leftover fabric, as requested.  After cutting the front I was left with mostly strips so I just went with it and tried to make it look good.  Some of the fabrics used are even her artwork turned into fabric!

For top stitching she let me pick, which I enjoy doing.  She liked loops and swirls so I found a loopy almost feathered pattern, that worked well with the fabric.  Since the front had a lot of white we opted for colored thread to add a little something something.

So now the moment you have all been waiting for... the big reveal

What a nice project to get back in the swing of things.
